Women in Scottish Aquaculture

Women in Scottish Aquaculture (WiSA) exists to introduce more women into aquaculture, and support those already working in the sector.


For everyone in the Scottish aquaculture industry

Open for all to join, WiSA promotes the diverse and rewarding careers that are available in aquaculture, to encourage more women to enter the sector. It also supports the progression, opportunities and development of women who are already working in aquaculture.

Our aims

    for women to develop their careers within the industry

  • To support industry

    in developing the potential of women within the workplace at all levels


A survey conducted by SAIC revealed overwhelming industry support for the creation of a 'women in aquaculture' group. Almost 200 participants provided responses to the survey from across the UK aquaculture industry, of which:


...said they would be interested in joining the group


...said the group should provide networking support to those working, or considering, a career in UK aquaculture


...agreed that it should raise awareness of women working in UK aquaculture
