The WiSA mentoring programme kicks off in Oban

The inaugural WiSA mentoring programme, funded by the Scottish Government, had its first meeting at SAMS in Oban last Tuesday (14 January 2020).

Attended by 20 keen participants from Mowi, SSMG, Scottish Sea Farms, University of Strathclyde, Otter Ferry Seafish, Scottish Salmon Company, SAMS-UHI, Patogen, NeemCo Ltd and University of West of Scotland, the day consisted of training sessions for mentors and mentees alike.

The training was conducted by Laurie Macpherson (from The Grow Consultancy and Skillfluence). Some participants in this first cohort couldn’t make it to Oban last Tuesday, but we will be in touch with them to organise a catching-up session.

We are really pleased with the enthusiasm in the sector for the WiSA mentoring programme: in terms of mentees, all 20 places are filled, and we have several others on a waiting list for the next tranche.

It’s also great to have 15 experienced colleagues signed up as mentors, although we could happily accommodate another few. Training will be provided, and the benefits of being a mentor are well documented. So, if you are thinking about becoming a mentor, or know someone who you think would make a great mentor – please get in touch!
